The Pärnu birch plywood factory Metsä Wood in the end of August officially started industrial production
To the birch veneer, which made in Finland, at the Pärnu factory will add plywood. The volume of production is planned at the level of 50 thousand cubic meters of birch plywood per year. “The project of the plant has been modernized in accordance with the schedule both in Finland and in Estonia. Now we are at an important stage when we start industrial production. Until now experimental production has been carried out and we received the excellent feedback on the quality of the products. I am glad that we found very motivated and professional people in Estonia, who worked together with us in this big project. Work continues with further development of production”, – said Esa Kaikkonen, Excutive Vice President of Metsä Wood. Now there are 65 production and 10 administrative employees at the Metsä Wood factory in Pärnu. Production is carried out in 3 shifts 5 days a week. In September, 12 new workers will start working. The plant for conversion of birch plywood located in Finland will be moved to Pärnu by the end of January, and then it is planned to hire and train the next 30 workers. “This year for the employees of the Pärnu factory was a very intensive period. In addition to the launch of production, several different programs and working models were launched in a very short time. I am proud of our motivated, professional and well-trained staff”, – said the factory director, board member of Metsä Wood Eesti AS Kaarel Tali. “The combining theory and practice curriculum for new employees was successful. The safety program was mastered excellently, and I can say that we were the most successful in this area. There have been no accidents still, just as the number of sick leave sheets remained at very low level”, – Tali said. The plant will reach its project capacity by the end of 2019.
